Victims Sue xAI Over Grok Deepfake Abuse

A class of at least 100 alleged victims filed a lawsuit on Jan. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California accusing xAI's Grok chatbot of generating nonconsensual sexualized deepfakes and failing to implement safeguards. Plaintiffs cite New York Times and Center for Countering Digital Hate analyses estimating 1.8-3 million sexualized images produced in a nine-day period and note investigations from the EU, UK, South Korea, and letters from 35 U.S. state attorneys general.
