UK Builds AI Supercomputer For Fusion Research
The UK government announced on Monday it will invest £45 million (about $60 million) to build Sunrise, an AI-focused supercomputer at the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s Culham campus, expected to begin operating in June. Officials say Sunrise will deliver up to 6.76 exaFLOPS of AI modeling performance, use AMD EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs, and support fusion programs including STEP and LIBRTI. The system aims to accelerate fusion simulations by enabling physics-informed AI and digital twins.
