ROOT Observer Provides Privacy-First Home Camera
ROOT introduced the Observer, an open-source privacy-first home security camera prototype with firmware and build guides available now and pre-production units heading to testers soon. The device uses a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, local-first storage, on-device machine learning for people/pet/vehicle detection, and end-to-end encryption with optional self-hosted relay servers for secure remote access. The design preserves data privacy while enabling remote functionality.
