Railways Build Underpasses To Protect Elephants

Palakkad Division of Southern Railway plans to construct more than two underpasses for wild elephants along the twin single lines through Solakkarai reserve forest in the Madukkarai range, announced February 22, 2026. Two underpasses built in 2023–24 are already used, while a ₹20 crore optical-fibre elephant intrusion detection system with AI analytics is testing over 35 km to reduce train collisions.
