Privacy Commissioner Joins Global Statement On Deepfakes

New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner has signed a global joint statement expressing concern about AI-generated images and calling for compliance with existing privacy laws. The statement, endorsed by more than 50 agencies across the UK, Australia, Canada, France and elsewhere, highlights harms including non-consensual intimate imagery, defamation, and risks to children. It urges organisations to implement safeguards, engage regulators, and consider legal updates.
