Portable Oxygen Devices Reveal Performance Gaps

Researchers led by Shohei Kawachi report a scoping review (search to September 2025) mapping ambulatory oxygen devices, technologies, and performance across 166 eligible records. They identified 33 portable oxygen concentrators, 10 cylinders, and 6 liquid oxygen systems, noting trade-offs between portability, flow (2–6 L/min), and operating time; liquid oxygen offered best endurance but high cost, highlighting limited innovation and need for lightweight higher-flow devices.
