Pentagon Warns Commercial AI Contracts Hamper Operations

Emil Michael, undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, said at the American Dynamism Summit in Washington that commercial AI contracts signed under the Biden administration contain sweeping operational restrictions that could paralyse US military missions in real time. He said clauses could stop models mid-operation, citing use of Anthropic's Claude on classified systems and prompting Pentagon renegotiations and vendor scrutiny.
