OpenAI Experiences Widespread ChatGPT Service Outage

ChatGPT users began experiencing service interruptions around 3:00 p.m. Eastern, with DownDetector showing over 10,000 reports by 3:15 p.m. OpenAI's status page confirms the outage is impacting conversations, search, image generation, Codex, Atlas and other features. OpenAI launched the Codex Mac app yesterday with about 200,000 day-one downloads, and Apple issued an Xcode update adding agentic coding for Codex and Claude.
