Nippon Life Sues OpenAI Over ChatGPT Advice

Nippon Life Insurance Company of America filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois alleging OpenAI’s ChatGPT gave bogus legal advice that induced employee Graciela Dela Torre to reopen a settled lawsuit. The complaint says Dela Torre used ChatGPT to critique counsel, generate 21 motions and other filings, and seeks $300,000 compensatory, $10 million punitive damages, and a permanent injunction.
