New York Governor Hochul Weakens Climate Laws

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signaled plans to weaken the state's 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) in recent budget amendments, though she left the law intact for now, Politico reported. Her executive budget omits the $200 million Build Public Renewables Act (BPRA) funding, cuts 1.5 gigawatts of planned public renewables and adds roughly 3 GW of fracked-gas capacity, jeopardizing CLCPA targets of 70% zero-emission by 2030 and 100% by 2040.
