Meta Grants Patent For Digital Afterlife Simulation
Meta was granted a patent in December 2023 for an AI that can simulate a user’s online activity — including responding for users who take long breaks or are deceased — by training LLMs on a person's posts, comments, chats and voice messages. The November 2023 filing, listing CTO Andrew Bosworth, also mentions voice-cloning and deepfake calls; Meta says it has no plans to develop the example, and the patent expires in 2043.
