La Trobe University has appointed Macquarie University’s head of artificial intelligence, Phil Laufenberg, as its inaugural Pro Vice-Chancellor (Artificial Intelligence) and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, joining in early April. The university says the role will lead its push to become an “AI-first” institution, provide staff and students with advanced AI tools by year-end, and scale responsible deployments including ChatMQ-style multimodel systems for about 3,500 staff.
