IRS Cuts Probationary Workforce, Jeopardizes Tax Processing

According to The Register, the Internal Revenue Service is cutting thousands of probationary employees, many hired under the Inflation Reduction Act’s roughly $80 billion hiring initiative. The cuts, driven by the DOGE advisory campaign linked to Elon Musk, target IT, enforcement and customer-service roles and risk disrupting tax return processing, modernization projects and enforcement during the peak filing season.
