Gartner Warns AI Could Shut Down Infrastructure

Gartner warned this week that misconfigured AI embedded in cyber-physical systems could shut down critical services in a major economy as soon as 2028. The analyst firm says errors from routine updates, configuration changes, or flawed data in models controlling power grids, factories, or transport can trigger equipment failures and cascading outages. It urges stronger human intervention, governance and oversight for operational AI.
