Courts Uphold Fair Use For AI Training

The Electronic Frontier Foundation argues in a republished Deeplinks blog that U.S. courts have long treated copying for analysis and AI training as transformative fair use, citing Bartz v. Anthropic's finding that model training is highly transformative. It warns that expanding copyright to require licenses for text-and-data mining would hinder research, favor large incumbents, and undermine open-source and smaller developers.
