AI Chatbot Delivers MI-Aligned PrEP Counseling
Researchers at Brown University developed CHIA, an AI chatbot built on GPT-4o to deliver motivational interviewing–aligned counseling for HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and conducted internal usability testing from March 10–April 28, 2025. Across 296 responses (145 English, 151 Spanish), CHIA scored high on up-to-dateness (mean 4.6), trustworthiness (4.5), and accuracy (4.4), but Spanish responses lagged significantly.
