TRAI Highlights AI Risks In Telecom Networks

TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said at the TRAI–STPI Pre-Summit on AI in Telecommunications on January 22, 2026, that telecom networks are both carriers and beneficiaries of AI, with operators using AI and blockchain to detect and block nearly 400 million voice calls or messages daily while serving over 1.2 billion subscribers. Industry leaders urged transparency, accountability, human oversight, clearer policy frameworks and workforce skilling ahead of the IndiaAI Impact Summit on Feb. 19–20.
