Spelman Students Debut PlantGPT Plant-Health Translator

Students at Spelman College in Atlanta unveiled PlantGPT, a prototype that translates plant sensor data into conversational care advice and won first place at the November 2025 AAAS Making and Innovation Showcase. The system uses an Arduino to collect moisture, light and nutrient indicators, sends readings to ChatGPT, and outputs recommendations via text-to-speech. The team plans to adapt the device for urban farms and smallholder crop monitoring.
