Shopify Imposes 4% OpenAI ChatGPT Fee

Shopify will enable sales through AI chatbots on Jan. 26 by making merchants' products available via a data‑sharing program that surfaces items in ChatGPT, Google’s AI Mode and Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot. Merchants using ChatGPT Instant Checkout will pay OpenAI a 4% fee on those sales in addition to Shopify’s fees, while Google and Microsoft checkouts currently impose no extra charge.
