Pratt and Whitney Develops Hydrogen Steam Injected Engine

Pratt and Whitney and the RTX Technology Research Center on Jan. 21, 2026 unveiled HySIITE, a hydrogen-steam-injected turbine concept, and DISCOVER, an AI design-exploration tool. Tests at RTX showed roughly 35% performance improvement and near-elimination of NOx while capturing about a gallon of water every three seconds; DISCOVER reduced a quattuorvigintillion-scale design space to 4,202 feasible architectures guiding compact-core, steam-injection designs.
