MIPT Students Present Arctic Ice-Mapping Drone

Vladimir Putin and MIPT Rector Dmitry Livanov met with students in a recent conversation marking the university's upcoming 75th anniversary. Students described a 200-kilogram unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with radar and AI for ice-condition mapping, tested on four Arctic expeditions and deployed on three Atomflot icebreakers. Officials said the system supplements shrinking satellite imagery access and supports safer navigation along the Northern Sea Route.
