KHNP Opens Bidding For Reactor Sites

State-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) opened a bidding process on Jan. 30 to select candidate sites for two large nuclear reactors planned for 2037–2038. The move follows the government's 11th basic electricity plan and the climate ministry's citing of rising power demand from AI growth and clean-energy goals. KHNP aims to pick sites by 2027 and secure safety approval by 2031; it also opened bidding for a small modular reactor site.
