Indonesia Positions AI As Classroom Support Tool

Jakarta — Minister Abdul Mu’ti said on Thursday that AI should serve as a tool to support learning, not replace teachers, stressing human-centered education and ethical oversight. He announced English will become a mandatory subject from grade 3 in 2027 and urged active, contextual deep-learning approaches over rote methods. A UHAMKA professor warned against excessive AI reliance and reinforced teachers’ facilitator roles.
