DeepMind Chief Predicts AGI Within Eight Years

Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, told the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi that AGI could arrive in the next five to eight years, saying current systems show emerging capabilities. He warned of urgent biosecurity and cybersecurity risks, and highlighted limitations like lack of continual learning, poor long-term planning, and inconsistent performance. Hassabis said improved AI will boost scientists' cross-disciplinary productivity.
