Anthropic Pledges To Cover Data Center Grid Costs

Anthropic announced it will cover 100% of necessary grid upgrade costs and work to bring net-new power generation to match its data centers’ electricity needs, and where new generation isn’t online it will estimate and cover demand-driven price effects. Bloomberg reported in September that wholesale electricity costs rose as much as 267% near data centers over five years; observers note many labs still do not fully disclose training versus inference energy breakdowns, citing Mistral’s July report.
